Pre-purchase
Examinations
The pre-purchase exam calls on the intuitive skills
of the veterinarian to find any lameness and/or medical problems.
The exam always includes a thorough history, physical exam, and neurologic
exam. Next the musculoskeletal system is evaluated and in most cases
certain joints will be imaged for evaluation. X-rays give you valuable
information by which to base the purchase decision, a baseline for
that particular horse and a basis for evaluating radiographic changes
seen in that horse over time.
Digital Radiography

Misty Valley Equine features the DigiVet Equine
Digital Radiography System from AFP Imaging packaged exclusively
with Metron DR software. Digital radiographs are a version of traditional
x-ray; where the image is processed via computer in high resolution
identifying subtle abnormalities. The DigiVet System features a plate
attached via a cable to the computer processor. Each r-ray appears
on the screen seconds after it is taken and is stored digitally within
the system. Images can be burned to CD or emailed to another veterinarian,
as one often does for prepurchase examinations.
Digital
Ultrasonography
Ultrasonography enables one to evaluate soft
tissues such as tendons and ligaments, to identify and evaluate the
process of healing. My digital system by Classic Medical provides
excellent image detail along with the ability to store and share
a digital image immediately with others. I can image structures within
joints to assess damage to collateral ligaments, cartilage, and joint
capsules. Deep structures such as pelvic sacro-iliac joints can be
examined for signs of arthritis with the ultrasound also.
